​gluten-free: is it actually healthy?

If you mentioned gluten intolerance or that you had celiac disease a couple of years ago, many in the food/hospitality industry would have drawn a blank, but now, ‘gluten-free’ is perceived as a healthy alternative diet and can be seen on restaurant menus, food packaging and marked on supermarket isles. But is this just a fad diet for many (for the ones who have made a choice to cut it out) or is there more to it?
